We should maintain that if an interpretation of any word in any religion leads to disharmony and does not positively further the welfare of the many, then such an interpretation is to be regarded as wrong; that is, against the will of God, or as the working of Satan or Mara.

Religion & Politics: A Link to A Helpful Posting
E.J. Dionne Jr.'s editorial, "Election 2012’s great religious divide," is worth looking at. In a nutshell, he argues that it's one thing to uphold the separation of church and state and quite another to argue that the religious views of politicians are not fair game for public examination.
